Road Trip

11/30/2012

Picture
One thing that I love to do, and that George and I do well together, is go for a drive and take a road trip.

Whether it is a trip to Cape Breton or somewhere on a map, I love going for drives and seeing where we end up.  George and I drive well together, we never argue while driving.  I think the reason for this is I am the navigator, and he is just the driver.  George relies on me to give him directions, plus he appreciates it when I use my woman powers to make a trip less complicated, and more manageable.

Here is something to make everyone smile, or nauseous, however you think of this little story I am going to tell you.  It is nothing huge, but it showed George's giving nature to me long ago.  Every year, since my father passed away, I go Christmas shopping for my Grampa.  He gets me to pick up things that he didn't get a chance to, but most importantly, I get to spend time with him, and he gets to spend time with me.  In December 2000, I was very upset, I was unable to get down to my grandfather's house, and at that time, I had been talking with this guy (George) for a few weeks.  George knew how upset I was, and he drove to Halifax to pick me up, to take me down to Cape Breton, so I could do this with my grandfather.  The thing is, he drove the entire trek in one day.  It was so sweet, and I have never missed the opportunities to go shopping with my grandfather, even when, in 2000, it didn't seem possible.

My favourite road trips are the ones where George and I have absolutely no idea where we are going.  We have taken the girls on these trips, where, just for fun, George and I would turn down some road to see where it led.

Today,  I am going for a road trip.  I am doing my usual annual thing for my Grampa.  A little different this year; he is in the hospital, but I am going to still go ahead as planned.  In my car will be my best guy.  Road Trips make me happy.

Being In Love

11/29/2012

Picture
I know that most people who read the words that I write think they know how much I love my husband.  The words that I write are filled with the love that I feel for him, but to be honest, I could not adequately express myself to let you see the full picture.

Here is something to think about:  imagine how many different steps in your life had to occur in order for you to meet that someone special.  How many people you had to meet and greet, how many heartaches and tears, how many crappy jobs and rude people that you had to navigate through in order to meet the love of your life.

Perhaps you are still navigating.  Don't get discouraged, it will happen. Make sure that you know what it is you are looking for, what qualities you desire, and do not settle for anything less. It is something that takes time; like all good things, love takes time.  It takes patience, believe me; being married to George takes a lot of patience.

If I were to describe my relationship to George in a sentence or two this is what I would say: "George and I don't have much; we don't have a lot of money, we never really had a lot of money.  We don't have a lot of stuff; but we really appreciate the things that we have although we would be the first people to give it all away if it was to help someone in need.  What George and I have that most people do not, we TRULY love each other."  One of the reasons that we do not have much, is that we both get more pleasure out of someone else's happiness when we help them out, or get them something that they needed.  We usually forgo our own needs, silly I know, but it is true.

It may sound corny, but George and I are both the missing pieces in each other puzzles.  He understands me and I understand him.   That does not mean that I agree with him all the time, it just means that I realize where he is coming from.

George is my best friend.  I am in love with him, and I become even more in love with him more and more each and every day.  He irritates me, but he makes me laugh.

A Good Night's Sleep

11/28/2012

Picture
For me, nothing is better then when you get a good night's sleep.  I don't mean the kind of sleep that brings you back to when you were a teenager; you know, you go to bed and then suddenly you wake up at noon(or worse, later then noon).  Those days, your bed is your mistress and she keeps calling you back: 'Come back, only a few more minutes...seriously you don't need to get up right now...I am so warm and the air is so cold...Don't leave me.'  Just like that extra piece of cake you didn't need, you give in.  Although you do sleep, it is really not a good night's sleep.

The kind of sleep that I am speaking of is the kind that can only be described as the Goldilocks sleep.  It is when you go to bed, and wake up refreshed.  This sleep is usually only about seven to eight hours long, but when you wake up it is like you were hibernating, and now you are alive again.

Everything seems to be a bit clearer.  Your mind seems to be sharp and your body finally feels they way that you want it to.  Your day seems to go the exact way that you had hoped that it would, and in general, you feel fantastic.

Great Friends

11/27/2012

No picture needed for this one.  I can not tell you who your great friends are, but I can talk about my great friends.  {Insert your own picture}

If you have great friends, distance doesn't affect your relationship with them.  Time just improves the friendship, and disagreements just add flavour.  I have been very fortunate in my life to meet such wonderful and loving people.  Some of my friends I might only see once in a few years, but that does not fray the bond that we have.  There truly is a spot in my heart for all of them.

Some of the greatest relationships that I have are with people that I met travelling along my life's pathway, some of them were and are exotic flowers and others were rocks that weighed me down.  Somehow, using my sieve-like friend filter, I managed to win the lottery and find diamond friends.

There are a few people that I choose to recognize as great friends.  I know you know who you are, so I will not go all-disclosure without consulting you first.  I know some things were said and done, but there were no witnesses (as far as we could tell), so speaking of particular things may cause uncontrollable laughter.

Thank you.

Bubbles

11/26/2012

Picture
When I was a kid, one thing that I looked forward to was getting the usual bottle of bubbles from the Easter Bunny in my basket.  There was always something special about taking the bubbles and going outside to blow hundreds of bubbles for a few hours.

I still remember how fascinated I was when a company came out with these super bubble kits; the ones where there wasn't a bottle but it had a kind of plate. Also, there wasn't a bubble wand, instead it was this contraption that had a pole and some string like loopy thing.  You could dunk the string in the bubble making goo (don't tell me it was soap because I could never recreate that stuff...ever) on the plate and make giant bubbles.  It was cool but really messy.

I bought bubbles for both of my daughters, and they both really enjoyed blowing the bubbles and of course, catching and popping them.  Watching the two of them playing together for me was always something wonderful.  The two of them have this bond that no one would ever be able to understand.  It truly is a very special and wonderful relationship.

Manners

11/25/2012

Picture
Something that stands out to me in various situations is when a child or children use manners without prompting from their respective parents.

For me, this is a a moment that not only makes me happy, but it also usually brings a smile to my face.  I am always saying that even the smallest gestures can have the largest impact.

Sometimes I wish that adults could learn a thing or two from their children. Being polite is just a simple way of showing a respect for other people.  However, as the saying goes 'If wishes were horses, poor men would ride.'

As it is, when I come across anyone who knows how to use their manners, it gives me a little joy knowing that there are others out there who believe that we are all in this together.

Groove Is In the Heart

11/24/2012

Picture
My daily happy today is dancing.  Whether I am at a formal dance or in the middle of a grocery store aisle, if a song plays over the radio that has that certain sound, I will dance.

You may find me dancing all alone, with no music, just because there is a song in my heart and the only way to let is out  is to dance it out.

Dancing is a groove that is something best shared.  When you are dancing with someone special, it makes the room seem a little smaller, makes your problems seem a little less.  Whether your someone special is your favourite guy or girl or your crazy friends who like expressing themselves in the most creative ways, some days we've just got to dance.

Belly Laughing

11/23/2012

Picture
One thing that not only makes me happy but also makes me feel good all over is a full belly laugh.  Laughing just makes everything feel better, but the full belly laugh is the indicator that you have now reached the point that you are letting go.  You have now officially let go of all of the apprehensions that you have kept to yourself.  Perhaps you look silly, but who cares. When you are belly laughing you are only being one person and that is you.  Being you is all that matters.

:o)  When you are happy, ROAR!

A Good Book

11/22/2012

Picture
There is something magical when you sit down with a good book.  If the author of the novel is worth their weight in salt their storytelling skills should be able to suck you in and engulf you in the scenery and characters.

I have a grand imagination and reading something that is well written allows me to escape the busyness of my everyday life.  I like being able to relate with the characters, and having a personal vestment in the success or failure of the characters.

So if you are like me, and you have some time today, take out a good book, a warm blanket and a hot cup of coffee (or  a warm cup of cocoa), and escape into the imagination of your favourite author.

A Warm Cup Of Cocoa

11/21/2012

Picture
Now this is just going old school, but I feel an everlasting joy when I think of making and drinking a warm cup of cocoa.  If you haven't done this before in your life, well I am going to tell you how to make the full-flavoured, full-fat version and you can do whatever you want to with this information.

You need one heaping teaspoon of Fry's cocoa, to two teaspoons of sugar.  Then add in carnation canned evaporated milk(I know I didn't present this as the healthiest drink), enough to cover the milk and sugar. Stir the mixture, until it has a smooth consistency, making sure that there is no large lumps of cocoa.  Add hot water, and stir.

For me, a warm drink on a cold day is like a big hug.

:o) Sweet Cup of Joy!
