This week a tragic shooting occurred in Connecticut. It was absolutely horrible, and everyone who knew of, heard of or saw the events unfold, had their hearts broken yet again due to the senseless violence that continues to plague our society. We are all responsible for those adults and children that have lost their lives, not only Friday, but every time something like this happens.
For a person like myself, when I see something like this happen, the solution always seems to scream out. Then again, like you, I have 20/20 vision after the fact. The true solution to this is that we need to demand more from our fellow citizens This is not just an American problem; it is an issue for all of us. In Canada, our views and politics are just as divided as in the United States. I am just sick to death of hearing the media speak of how gun hungry the Americans are and how in Canada we do not have the same problems as the Americans do because of how great and fantastic our gun laws are. Please Canada, get off your high horse and just admit, no we do not have the same issues as the Americans, but keep in mind we also only have a population that is one tenth that of our American friends. It is so easy to criticize, but it is not easy finding a solution.
I have been avoiding a lot of the media coverage of the shooting just because the thought of those children makes me very sad. However, the stories of heroism that have been emerging through social media and the regular media has been restoring my faith in humanity. The story of the first grade teacher who had the wits about her to hide her students in the cupboard, which saved them but cost her her life or the principal who tried to stop the shooter from shooting the children, also to her demise, restores and affirms my idea that their are a lot of wonderful fantastic people out there.
This idea is a happy. I know that I am not alone.
