Laughter Is The Best Medicine

1/9/2011

09-01-11  One thing that always makes me cheer up is having a really good belly laugh.  You know, those laughs that you have that are so unexpected that you just belt out this wallop of a laugh.  I know when I have laughed too long my stomach starts to hurt.  Why do people who make you laugh, continue to make you laugh when they know full well that you are now keeling over in pain?  I find that it really doesn't matter how angry I am, if someone makes me crack a smile, I am done.  It just washes everything away.

One time that I watched the news there was this story about laughing.  There were these people that get together and laugh at nothing.  They just start to laugh in an attempt to release those happy chemicals in the brain.  It seems to make some sense, but I will be honest with you, seeing those people forcing themselves to laugh was enough for me.  I was laughing at them, so perhaps laughter can be contagious.

I guess some would say that laughing at others and passing judgement is not a very nice thing to do.  Believe me, if it weren't for stupid people, my entertainment would be down to a minimal. I am not saying people who sit in a room and force themselves to laugh is a room full of stupid people; they are just people trying to better themselves.  It is the really stupid people that are my "Reality TV."  Take for example this story: A few years ago, I'm not sure how long, a woman in Oklahoma successfully sued a motorhome company.  This doesn't seem like a story of an unusual nature.  Here is the thing:  she successfully sued them because she got into and accident caused by their negligence.  What was their negligence you ask?   Well, they failed to post any warning.  Warning signs?  This lady was driving her gigantic motorhome, put it on cruise control, then proceeded to go into the back and make herself a sandwich.  Really?  What a moron.  Yet even still she was successful in suing the company, so what does that say about the American culture for suing?

I heard this a long time ago, and I'll keep saying it.  "Common sense is not so common."

When I had the privilege of working in the operating rooms, one of the surgeons said something that I will never forget.  He said, "You can cure all the diseases in the world and I still wouldn't be out of a job because you can't cure stupid." What would our world be without stupid people?  I know that it wouldn't be as entertaining.

So there you have it;  one of my "happys" is being able to laugh.  I hope I was able to make you smile!
